Professor Lowman and Kara Spiller (Ph.D. candidate) were recently awarded a grant through the NSF Doctoral Dissertation Enhancement Program (DDEP). The title of the project is "Engineering Smart Biomaterials for Cartilage Tissue Engineering: A Drexel University and Shanghai Jiao Tong Training Partnership." The grant will fund Kara's trip to Shanghai this fall to work in the Shanghai Key Tissue Engineering Laboratory under Yilin Cao and Wei Liu. The project will be examining the controlled release of growth factors from hydrogels to enhance articular cartilage repair.
