Professor Elabd Receives Funding From the Army Research Office
Prof. Yossef A. Elabd receives funding from the Army Research Office (ARO) for his project entitled, “Molecular Transport in Ionic Polymer Membranes under Applied Voltage.” The aim of this project is to investigate the transport of ions and small molecules in polymers under an applied voltage using a new technique recently developed in Prof. Elabd's laboratory. This highly sensitive, in situ, non-invasive technique allows for real-time molecular-scale measurements within the polymer under a variety of perturbations (e.g., electric field). The results from this work will have a broad impact on a number of applications including fuel cells (portable power), actuators (artificial muscles), and electrodialysis (water purification). This grant is a 3-year project with a budget of $308K.
