Significant Events in the Lab's History

2000's

Developed biosensors for detection and measurement of pathogens, proteins and DNA.

Examples include the measurement of less than 50 Bacillus anthracis spores per mL within 20 minutes.

1990's

Developed cell culture reactors including metabolism control for biomass.

Developed methods to manipulate intercellular pH.

Optimized recombinant protein production.

Developed fluorescence based metabolic measurement methods.

1980's

Investigated fuels from biomass fermentation yielding ethanol and butanol.

1970's

Founded in 1976 by Raj Mutharasan.

Developed direct digital control algorithms for distributed parametric systems including packed bed and tubular flow reactors.

Examples included control of temperature in hydro de-alkalization reactors.
