Our Thin Films & Devices Lab is studying the synthesis of polymer thin films and their integration in novel devices. Among many synthesis and processing techniques, we are exploring unique liquid-free polymerization pathways using chemical vapor deposition. As a result of the liquid-free approach, we are able to create conformal polymer thin films and coatings on a variety of complex surface topographies.

We are particularly interested in understanding chemical reaction and mass transport phenomena during polymerization in 3D nanostructures that would the polymer thin films to be effectively integrated in 3D nanostructured devices, including applications in solar cells, batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, tissue engineering, and drug delivery.
